The Word of Wisdom helps me be healthy in body and spirit.
When I was a teenager there was a thing called a Tamagotchi. We didn’t have iPods back then, so it was the closest thing to an app we had. When you first got the Tamagotchi, a small egg would appear on the screen. The egg would wiggle and a few minutes later it would hatch into a small pet on the screen. After the pet was hatched you would have to care for the pet on the screen.
You would have to feed it and keep it happy. The pet’s had hunger meters and happy meters. When the pet was hungry you would fill up the hungry meter with “food”. To fill up the happy meter you could play games with it or give it a snack.
The pets would also leave “droppings” around the screen and it you didn’t clean up after them the pet could get sick.
If the pet got sick a skull icon would appear. It could get sick from a number of things but the main reason that the Tamagotchi would get sick is from eating to many unhealthy snacks or not being feed. The fake pet would then die.
This was just a silly game and it was not a real pet getting sick or dying but it can happen to our real pets if they do not eat right, are not healthy and taken care of.
Do you have a pet? What if one day the pets seem tired and sick and will not eat their favorite food?
What could be wrong with your pet?
Why might the pet not want to eat?
The pet may have eaten something that was bad for it.
How can you help your pet?(By not letting it eat food that is bad for it.)
What can happen to your body if you eat things that are not good for it?
Elder Gary E. Stevenson counseled young people to plan in advance what they will do when tempted with alcohol or drugs. Then he taught,
“You will find that temptation has less control over you. You will have already made the decision of how you will react and what you will do. You won’t need to decide every time” (“Your Priesthood Playbook,” Ensign or Liahona, May 2019, 48). Encourage the children you teach to decide now—for the rest of their lives—to live the Word of Wisdom.
Place all the cards face down in rows forming a large rectangle on the chalkboard.
The first player turns over two cards. If the cards match, then they take the two cards and they have another turn. If the cards don’t match they turn the cards over and it is the next players turn.
Encourage application (playing a matching game): Gather pictures of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve (each name above is link to their picture in LDS.org), and the ties with their names on them. The pictures are also included free in the download.
On one side of the chalkboard put the picture of the Prophets and the other side the ties. Have a child turn over a picture, and invite another child to turn over the tie with a name on it. (When the Prophet picture is turned over name encourage the primary to say the name aloud to help with the recognition of each prophet.) If the picture and name do not match, put them back in place and allow two other children to choose. If the pictures match, have the child place the tie on the Prophet
is (see also Guide to the Scriptures, “Apocrypha,” scriptures.ChurchofJesusChrist.org). Help the children think of other places, such as in the media, where we might find “many things … that are true” and “many things … that are not true” (verses 1–2). Then invite the children to search section 91 to learn what the Lord said we can do to discern between truth and error.
Encourage Learning at Home
Invite the children to share with their family what they learned today about caring for their body and spirit or their goals for obeying the Word of Wisdom.
There are 3 options with the lessons. The first one is a color PDF of the full lesson, all the pictures, scriptures and art projects with the watermark removed.
The next option is all the pictures in Black and White
The 3rd option is a PowerPoint with all the pictures and scriptures that you can pull up on your device. It is like having a digital copy. It eliminates the printing and the cutting out. This makes the lesson easier come Sunday morning.
All three options are now included in a zip drive that will immediately be emailed to you for $3.25. You can pick and choose from all three options to make your lesson just right for you!
*All purchases are final. Because of the nature of the digital product, no refunds will be available. I will how ever do whatever I can to make the download available to you.
