Show the children some pictures or activity pages you have used in recent lessons, and invite the children to share what they remember learning about them, either in class or at home.
The world has many distractions that can make it difficult to hear the Spirit. How will you help the children listen for the Spirit’s voice?
Ask the children what they would say if someone asked them how they know when the Holy Ghost speaks to them. Invite them to read about one way Joseph Smith described the Spirit’s voice in Doctrine and Covenants 85:6.
HOW TO PLAY DOMINOES
Shuffle the tiles. Do this by placing it upside down on the table and moving them around – be careful not to flip them!
You will then decide who goes first. The child who is chosen will then start to build his or her ‘deck’. Two players would start with 7 dominoes, three players with 5 tiles, four players with 4 tiles and five players with 3 tiles. Or you can print off 2 sets of tiles if your class is big.
Each child takes turns playing a tile, positioning it so that it touches either end of the domino chain which thus gradually increases in length.
If a player can lay a domino, then it must be played. Otherwise the player “knocks”and his turn is skipped.
What do each of these pictures on the dominoes have in common?
The Holy Ghost
How is the sun like the Holy Ghost? The sun gives us warmth just like the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost gives us a warm feeling inside when something is good and true.
What does a bandaid do when you put it one a cut? It protects the wound. What does it protect it from? Dirt, infection etc. The Holy Ghost protects us also. What kind of things does the Holy Ghost protect us from?
Who loves you? Heavenly Father, Jesus and the Holy Ghost. Our Mom and Dad also love us. When someone loves someone, they want the best for them. Heavenly Father gives us the power of the Holy Ghost because he loves us and wants what is best for us.
The Holy Ghost does not speak with a loud voice. He speaks with a still small voice. We need to listen to the still small voice of the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Ghost can testify that the Book of Mormon is true.
How is a blanket like the Holy Ghost? What is another name for a blanket? A comforter. The Holy Ghost is a comforter. He can help us when we are sad, sick or lonely. If you live righteously the Holy Ghost is always there for you in the hard times.
The parable of the wheat and the tares is about “the last days, even now” (Doctrine and Covenants 86:4). Use this parable to help the children feel inspired to take part in “the gathering of the wheat” (verse 7).
The children you teach will face spiritual and physical dangers throughout their lives. You can help them prepare to face those dangers by teaching them to find and stand in holy places.
Read together Doctrine and Covenants 87:6 to learn about things the Lord said would happen in the latter days. Ask the children to talk about challenges that children their age sometimes face. Invite them to find in verse 8 what the Lord said we should do during hard times. Tell the children about holy places in your life.
Help the children make a list of holy places, holy thoughts, and holy actions that can help them face spiritual danger (for ideas, see the videos “Standing in Holy Places” and “Stand Ye in Holy Places—Bloom Where You’re Planted,” ChurchofJesusChrist.org). Invite them to keep their list with them to refer to when needed.
Invite the children to pick one thing they will do to make their home or their life a “holy place.”
There are 3 options with the lessons. The first one is a color PDF of the full lesson, all the pictures, scriptures and art projects with the watermark removed.
The next option is all the pictures in Black and White
The 3rd option is a PowerPoint with all the pictures and scriptures that you can pull up on your device. It is like having a digital copy. It eliminates the printing and the cutting out. This makes the lesson easier come Sunday morning.
All three options are now included in a zip drive that will immediately be emailed to you for $3.25. You can pick and choose from all three options to make your lesson just right for you!
*All purchases are final. Because of the nature of the digital product, no refunds will be available. I will how ever do whatever I can to make the download available to you.
