Invite the children to share something they did to help someone this week. How can serving others help us become like our Savior?
How can you inspire the children to turn to the Lord “in prayer always” when they are in need?
Invite someone to read Doctrine and Covenants 81:3, and ask the children what it means to pray “in [your] heart.” Share an experience when you prayed aloud or in your heart and the Lord helped you. Also ask the children to share their own experiences. How can prayer bring us closer to Heavenly Father?
Show the children the iPrayer. Prayers are like a phone that we can all your Heavenly Father. Put the text bubble for each as you talk about it. How do we start our prayers? . What comes next? We need to thank our Heavenly Father for ALL our blessings. We need to be thankful for everything our Heavenly Father gives us. What are some of the things that you are grateful for? What comes next? Heavenly Father loves us and he wants us to love him. He wants us to ask for help and he wants to bless us.And how do we end the prayer?
Saying “amen” at the end of a prayer means that we agree with what was said in the prayer.
Share an experience when God helped you after you prayed to Him. Invite the children to share experiences they have had with prayer.
Help the children understand that there are many ways they can serve their family, friends, and neighbors every day.
Cut out both the numbers
and the scriptures
- Lightly tape the “Scripture Cards” over the
- Then lightly tape the number cards over the scripture cards.
Classic Concentration was an old TV game show based on the children’s memory game.
The first child chooses 2 numbers, revealing a scripture
. If the scripture don’t match, then return the numbers to their place
If the scriptures match,
then remove the scripture cards, giving it the child that guessed right, revealing the small portion of the picture
. The child then can guess what the picture is. If they answer correctly, they win. If not move on the next child, leaving the small portion of the picture revealed.
Continue until the whole picture is revealed or a child guesses what the picture is.
Ask each child to look up the scripture reference on the scripture cards. Have them take turns reading each scripture.
What word appeared in each scripture?
Whom should we serve?
How do we serve God?
As the children develop trust in God’s promises, their willingness to obey His commandments will grow.
Cut apart the portions and ingredients
Give the children an ingredient and a portion. Ask them to match the ingredients and the potions together the best they can. Explain that instructions are necessary to be able to make the cookies. Then discuss how rules and laws are like instructions. Explain that the children could make cookies even if they didn’t follow instructions, but they might not want to eat it. But if they carefully followed the instructions of a good recipe, the cookies would be good to eat.
Help the children place the right ingredient with the right portions.
Rules are necessary in other aspects of our lives. Ask the children to name some rules we should follow to be safe, to have good health, to have good relationships with others, or to have eternal life. Rules bring order into our lives and are necessary for us to know how to live happily. In this lesson we will learn about Moses and the children of Israel receiving the Ten Commandments, which are laws given by God to help us know what to do and how to live so we can be happy.
Read to the children, “I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say” (Doctrine and Covenants 82:10).
Invite them to share what they learn about Heavenly Father’s promises. How does our obedience affect the blessings we can receive? Help the children think of examples from their lives or from the scriptures when obedience brought blessings from God.
Invite the children to think of how they would like to serve someone in their family this week. During next week’s lesson, let them share what they did.
There are 3 options with the lessons. The first one is a color PDF of the full lesson, all the pictures, scriptures and art projects with the watermark removed.
The next option is all the pictures in Black and White
The 3rd option is a PowerPoint with all the pictures and scriptures that you can pull up on your device. It is like having a digital copy. It eliminates the printing and the cutting out. This makes the lesson easier come Sunday morning.
All three options are now included in a zip drive that will immediately be emailed to you for $3.25. You can pick and choose from all three options to make your lesson just right for you!
*All purchases are final. Because of the nature of the digital product, no refunds will be available. I will how ever do whatever I can to make the download available to you.
