Doctrine and Covenants 29
Jesus Christ Will Gather His People
You know the children you teach, and there are many truths in Doctrine and Covenants 29 that can bless them. Follow the inspiration of the Spirit as you study section 29, and record impressions about how you will teach the children these truths.
Invite Sharing
Consider inviting a few children to share some of the ways they learn the gospel at home—individually or with their families. Invite one or more children to share their testimony of something they learned this week at home.
Teach the Doctrine: Older Children
Doctrine and Covenants 29
Heavenly Father prepared a plan of salvation for me.
The more a child knows about God’s plan of salvation, the more he or she can exercise faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to follow that plan. What parts of the plan do you feel impressed to focus on?
Plan of Salvation
Place the pictures on the chalk board as you discuss them.
13Save. This is where we are now but this is not the beginning of our lives.
13Save. This is where we began. Before we came to Earth we were spirits in the pre-mortal life. Can you remember living in the pre-mortal world? We all had a veil
13Save put over us so we can’t remember living in the pre-mortal world.
13Save. Can you remember when you were born? What about when you were 1? Just because we do not recall the first few years of early childhood does not mean that we didn’t exist, that we didn’t eat, play, laugh, and interact with family and friends. This is the same as when were in the pre-mortal world. In the pre-mortal life we were spirit children and lived with our heavenly parents.
Why don’t we remember our premortal life? When each of us was born on the earth, we forgot our life with Heavenly Father. This allowed us to develop faith in him and in Jesus Christ. We can do this through believing the prophets, studying the scriptures, praying, and following the guidance of the Holy Ghost.
Who is the Father of our spirits? God is not only our Ruler and Creator; He is also our Heavenly Father. All men and women are literally the sons and daughters of God. “Man, as a spirit, was begotten and born of heavenly parents, and reared to maturity in the eternal mansions of the Father, prior to coming upon the earth in a temporal [physical] body” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph F. Smith[1998], 335).
How are we as mortals like our heavenly parents?
What happens to our physical bodies when we die? Where do our spirits go? (Ecclesiastes 12:7; Alma 40:11–14.) The death our spirits do not actually go into God’s presence but go to the spirit world
13Save, where we receive a partial judgment
13Save.
What will happen after we are resurrected?
Doctrine and Covenants 29:1–2
Jesus Christ will gather His people before He comes again.
How can you help the children you teach be excited about helping with the gathering of Israel?
Invite the children to read Doctrine and Covenants 29:1–2
and look for what the Lord compares Himself to.
What do the children imagine when they read this comparison?
What did the Lord say we must do to be gathered by Him?
Invite the children to make a list of ways they can help people gather to the Savior
. For example, they could invite friends or family members to a Primary activity or to a home evening with their families.
10th Article of Faith
We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
Explanation of the 10th Article of Faith: A tribe is a big family of people. The Ten Tribes are families who descended from Jacob in the Old Testament, who was also called Israel. Missionaries go all over the world to help teach people about the gospel of Jesus Christ. When people accept the gospel, they are gathered into Jesus Christ’s Church. Jesus will come to live with us again and be our King. He will bring peace to the earth, and the earth will be more beautiful than it is now. This will be the beginning of a period of time called the Millennium.
Encourage Learning at Home
Invite the children to write down a truth they learned in class. Ask for a few ideas of what they will do to share this truth with their families.
Improving Our Teaching
Pay attention. Pay attention to how the children in your class are responding to learning activities. If they become restless, it may be time to move on to another activity or to take a walk. If you notice that the children are engaged and learning, don’t feel pressured to move on.
There are 3 options with the lessons. The first one is a color PDF of the full lesson, all the pictures, scriptures and art projects with the watermark removed.
The next option is all the pictures in Black and White
The 3rd option is a PowerPoint with all the pictures and scriptures that you can pull up on your device. It is like having a digital copy. It eliminates the printing and the cutting out. This makes the lesson easier come Sunday morning.
All three options are now included in a zip drive that will immediately be emailed to you for $2.75. You can pick and choose from all three options to make your lesson just right for you!
*All purchases are final. Because of the nature of the digital product, no refunds will be available. I will how ever do whatever I can to make the download available to you.
