At the beginning of the meeting, repeat together the Aaronic Priesthood Quorum Theme or the Young Women Theme. Then lead a discussion about items such as the following, and plan ways to act on what you discuss (you can decide in a presidency meeting which items to discuss):
As you read about the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood in Doctrine and Covenants 13, try to read through the eyes of those you teach. Do they understand the power of the priesthood in their lives? How have priesthood ordinances such as baptism and the sacrament helped you receive the Savior’s power? Think about experiences you could share. To prepare yourself to teach about the priesthood, consider studying the scriptures suggested in this week’s outline in Come, Follow Me—For Individuals and Families and “Priesthood” in Guide to the Scriptures (scriptures.ChurchofJesusChrist.org).
Hand out the scripture references about how and why the priesthood was restored
What do these scriptures teach the young women about the restoration of the priesthood?
How has the restoration of the priesthood influenced their lives?
Restoration of the Priesthood
Ask the young women to identify key participants in these events (such as Joseph Smith, John the Baptist, and Elijah)
and to read scriptures related to these events
. Invite the young women to discuss how the restoration of the priesthood can bless their lives now and in the future. How does the priesthood bless women and mothers?
D&C 2 (Elijah is to reveal the priesthood; promises to the fathers are planted in the hearts of the children)
D&C 27:12–13 (Peter, James, and John restored the Melchizedek Priesthood)
D&C 110:13–16 (Elijah returns and commits the keys of this dispensation as promised by Malachi)
What are the duties of priesthood holders?
Teach the Young Women about the duties of the various offices in the Priesthood by playing the following matching game:
Place the duties in a stack of a bowl. Have the Young Women take turns drawing out a duty and matching it to the priesthood office.
As a class, read
, and invite the young women to write a words and phrases that help them understand what the work of the priesthood is
and place it on the chalkboard. What connections do they see between the Young Women theme and the duties of priesthood holders?
Encourage quorum or class members to ponder and record what they will do to act on the impressions they received today. How does today’s lesson relate to personal goals they have made? If they would like, quorum or class members could share their ideas.
